Summary and Invitation
Introduction...
The Pittsburgh New Church School is unique. It is the only New Church school in
Western Pennsylvania, and, since it was founded in 1885, one of the oldest in the world. It
offers a blend of education which engenders wholeness in children
- so that physically, mentally and spiritually they are healthy,
active, and capable. It is a small, friendly, well-run school,
and a great place to spend a large part of childhood.
Practicalities...
Public school buses bring children from a wide area. Many
neighborhood children walk to school, and others are dropped off and picked up
by their parents. School days begin at 8:30, and students are dismissed at 3:00.
The school calendar roughly parallels that of the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
While there is a fully equipped kitchen, normally students
bring packed lunches to school. There are recesses at mid-morning and after
lunch. The children play outside in the pleasant school grounds when the weather
cooperates, and in the multi-purpose room when it doesn't. Tuition and fees are
quite reasonable, due to the generous annual subsidy received by the school from
the Pittsburgh New Church.
