We Have an Outstanding Faculty!
Here's a look at who's teaching at PNCS this year:
- Rev. Amos Glenn is the principal of PNCS. He's been involved with PNCS for four years already, teaching religion to the upper grades in addition to his pastoral duties in the New Church society. Amos has a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Bryn Athyn College of the New Church; and an M.Div. from the Academy of the New Church Theological School, and he is working on a Ph.D. in Education Leadership at Duquesne University.
- Gerda Griffiths (Associate in Arts, Education) teaches Pre-K and Kindergarten. Gerda attended Bryn Athyn College of the New Church.
- Colleen Murray-Donaldson teaches Grades 1-2. She has a B.F.A. with Art Certification from Edinboro University. Colleen has three years experience at PNCS, and prior experience teaching in both the Colorado and Pennsylvania public school systems. She attended the Academy of the New Church College in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania before transfering to Edinboro.
- Holly Uber teaches Grades 3-5. She has an Master of Arts in Teaching, from University of Pittsburgh, and a B.S. in Biology from Wright State. She has previous teaching experience at the Falk Laboratory School and at Aberdeen Middle School in Aberdeen, MD. Prior to that she spent two years in the Peace Corps in Cameroon working on agri-forestry and teaching English as a third language to the students in the village school. She's excited to be teaching at PNCS this year.
- Caroline David (BA, English and Music) teaches language arts and science to students in grades 4-8. She is an alumna of Keele University in England. All four of Caroline's children have attended PNCS, so she is an experienced PNCS mom and volunteer, and is excited to be doing more extensive teaching for the past several years.
- Cynthia Glenn teaches Grades 6-8, and is Assistant Administrator for PNCS. Cyndi has a B.A. In Anthropology from Hartwick College, and is working towards a Masters in Education at the University of Pittsburgh.
We're also extremely glad to have some great volunteer specialty teachers. Three who deserve special mention this year, for their large time commitments, are:
- Julie Uber (M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh, B.A. in Education, Bryn Athyn College of the New Church) for Art.
- Dr. Gabriella Uber, (B.S. in Microbiology, University of Pittsburgh; M.D., Pennsylvania State University Medical College) for Biology.
- Burgandy Smith, (B.A.'s in International Business and French, Grove City College) for French.
- Barbara Glenn is our wonderful universal sub who can do anything. She has an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Bloomsburg University, and a B.S. in Education from Penn State, and taught for many years in the public school system in Harrisburg.
Wilma Williamson is our longtime school secretary, without whom many things would come unraveled.
PNCS has strong working relationships with the international network of
New Church schools, and we can call on their specialists at need. School nurses, reading and speech specialists are available to us from the the local Intermediate Unit, and we get helpful suggestions each year from teams of experienced teachers from the New Church system, who visit twice per year.
The strength of the faculty shows in many ways. Our strong academics are described elsewhere, and most of our students go on to good academic careers. Recent graduates have gone on to Brandeis, Brown University, Bryn Athyn College, CMU, Dickinson, James Madison University, the University of Pittsburgh and other top colleges.
More importantly, PNCS seems to give students the foundation they need to be good people, to be useful to society, and to have happy lives.
